A look back at the 2024 Summit
The “Future of AI in Africa Global Summit & Expo 2024” was a pivotal event held at Ciela Resort in Lusaka, Zambia, from June 25th to 27th 2024. The summit brought together industry leaders, experts, and government officials to explore the transformative potential of AI across various sectors, including banking, finance, healthcare, telecoms, and mining. Highlights included a keynote by Dr. Mark Nasila on developing AI solutions tailored to Africa’s unique challenges and a panel discussion on leveraging AI for sustainable development. The event also featured in-depth sessions on AI governance, ethics, and its revolutionary role in cybersecurity, telecoms, and education.
Day two was marked by an insightful address from Zambia’s Minister of Science and Technology, Hon. Felix Mutati, followed by panel discussions debunking myths that hinder AI adoption and exploring AI’s impact on customer experience and risk management. The summit concluded with a deep dive into AI’s applications in sectors like healthcare, mining, and tax administration, alongside practical workshops on AI literacy and implementation strategies. The discussions underscored the importance of AI in driving innovation, efficiency, and growth in Africa, while also addressing the challenges of AI integration in various industries.




The pivotal event was orchestrated by Compu-Connect Education, a leading, 100% female-owned IT and smart technology firm operating in Zambia and South Africa. Dr. Jacques Ludik

Etienne Shardlow
Etienne Shardlow is a highly experienced IT professional based in Johannesburg, South Africa, with expertise in IT Service Management, consultancy, and training spanning over three decades. As the CEO of Symphonise Consulting (Pty) Ltd, he excels in IT governance, risk management, and service management, holding certifications in various industry standards.
Throughout his career, Etienne has led impactful projects for notable clients and contributed significantly to the ITSM community, including co-creating ITSM Express and serving on key industry committees. Yaza Kaluwa Kara
Yaza Kaluwa Kara brings nearly two decades of experience in business technology strategy and implementation to her role as a leader in digital innovation and transformation at Stanbic Bank Zambia. Dr. Monde Muyoyeta
Dr. Monde Muyoyeta, BSc, MBChB, PhD, is a Zambian Medical Doctor and Infectious Diseases Epidemiologist with 24 years of experience, serving as the Director of TB Programs, Clinical Trials Unit Leader, and Senior Advisor for the USAID TBLON Project at CIDRZ. A pioneer in utilizing Artificial Intelligence systems for TB screening and triage, she has led numerous research protocols, clinical trials, and health systems strengthening projects, contributing to over 60 publications. Dr. Muyoyeta's innovative use of AI technologies has significantly advanced TB screening practices and healthcare outcomes, establishing her as a prominent figure in infectious diseases research and public health.

Jonah Banda
Jonah Banda is a distinguished engineering executive with over ten years of experience in spearheading artificial intelligence innovations, data science, software architecture, and product strategy across divers sectors, including Agri-tech, Energy, and Fin-tech. At AgriPredict Solutions Zambia, he led the development of AI tools for weather prediction and crop weather management, significantly enhancing decision-making for farmers. His work at the FAO improved agricultural tools like the Livestock Sector Investment and Policy Toolkit (LSIPT) and the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS), influencing global agricultural policies. Jonah's expertise in AI extends to developing machine learning models for diagnosing crop diseases, which dramatically increased user engagement. He holds dual B.S. degrees in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona. Jonah is an adept leader in stakeholder management, analytics, and product development, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Dr. Greg Nsofu
Dr. Greg Chola Nsofu is a highly accomplished professional with a diverse background in academia and the corporate world. Starting as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Botswana, Dr. Nsofu transitioned into the field of Information Technology, holding roles such as Programmer and Head of ICT at IZAZI Solutions. Their career then led them to Transnet Limited as a Programme Executive, overseeing the Transnet Business Intelligence Unit, and later to Standard Bank Group as a Senior Manager focusing on Supply Chain Finance and Traditional Trade Programme.
Dr. Nsofu's leadership extended to the role of Director of Information Technology (CIO) at the National Pension Scheme Authority and as Board Chairman of NAPSA Stars Limited. They also served as a Non-Executive Director at MTN Zambia and currently hold positions such as Director of Information and Communication Technology at the Bank of Zambia, Board Member at the Zambia Electronic Clearing House, and University Council Member at Kapasa Makasa University.
Education-wise, Dr. Greg Chola Nsofu holds a BSc in Computer Mathematics from the University of Zambia, a Post Grad in Business Administration from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an MPhil in Economics Policy from Stellenbosch University, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration, also from Stellenbosch University. Dr. Nsofu's extensive experience and academic achievements showcase a well-rounded professional with a strong foundation in both technology and business management.

Sonny Zulu
Sonny Zulu is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank Zambia. Prior to this role, he served as the Head and Managing Director of the Consumer, Private and Business Banking business at Standard Chartered Bank in the UAE. In this position, he was responsible for developing and driving the retail business strategy while balancing governance, financial performance, risk management, distribution, and people development. Zulu also held the position of Regional Head of Strategic Transformation, Alliance and Performance Management for Africa and the Middle East at Standard Chartered Bank. Before relocating to Dubai, he was the Head of Retail Banking for Standard Chartered Bank Zambia and Southern Africa. Throughout his career, Zulu has taken on senior leadership responsibilities at a young age and has held several senior executive roles within the bank, including Head of Retail Clients, General Manager for Distribution for Zambia and Southern Africa, and Head of Corporate Affairs. As an entrepreneur, Zulu is a joint owner of Air Mafuta Aviation Services, a company he founded in 2009 with two other directors that supplies aviation fuel to local and international clients. Academically, Zulu holds an MBA from the University of Manchester Business School and a degree in Metallurgy and Mineral Processing from the University of Zambia. He has also completed several executive programs at Oxford University in the UK, Duke Corporate Education in Singapore, and INSEAD in Singapore as part of his personal development.

Shabir Ahmed
Shabir Ahmed is a distinguished figure in the field of information technology, revered as a seasoned researcher and practitioner, with over three decades of rich experience. Harrison Chapu
Mr. Harrison Chapu is an accomplished and seasoned professional in all aspects of ICT and projects management. His proven transformational leadership is augmented by his 23 years’ experience in leading various initiatives in ZRA, PACRA, ZESCO, Broadreach health and Atlasmara bank. In 2009, Mr. Chapu led the development of the Tax Administration and refunds processing system (TARPS) which automated the refunds processes for Customs and DOMT. In 2013, he was technical led in the implementation of TaxOnline 1 which saw the introduction of online services. From June 2004 to March 2007, Mr. Chapu worked as senior software engineer at ZESCO. During this period, he interfaced the ZESCO ERP (Oracle E – business suite with other ZESCO Internal systems under the BIS Project. As PARCA Head of ICT from 2015 to 2019, he introduced online services in PACRA. He also led the implementation of the one stop shop (OSS) solution providing the real-time interface with ZRA on registrations. From February 2022 to April 2024, Mr. Chapu worked as Project Manager – TaxOnline2 in ZRA, which has stabilised and operationalised all modules on the TaxOnline System. He also was project Manager for the Integrated Payments System (IPS) project which has harmonised the ZRA payments processes for Domestic Taxes and Customs. Mr. Chapu holds a master’s degree in business administration obtained in 2016 and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science obtained in 2001. He is a PRINCE2 Practitioner and COBIT 5 Certified. Mr. Chapu is a fellow of the Information and Communication Technology Society of Zambia.

Dr. Evans Silavwe
Dr. Evans Silavwe is the dynamic and visionary Chief Executive Officer of INFRATEL Corporation Limited. With an illustrious career spanning over 20 years, Dr. Silavwe has established himself as a formidable force in both the technical and business realms of the technology industry. An accomplished Electronics and Telecommunications Engineer, Dr. Silavwe has over 20 years of senior experience in building and managing communication networks. Albert Zulu
Albert Zulu is a highly esteemed technology expert with over two decades of experience in the field. He is a Microsoft Certified Trainer with 21 years of experience and holds the prestigious title of Microsoft Certified AI Engineer. As the Microsoft MCT Regional Lead for Zambia, Albert has been instrumental in advancing AI education and technology training across the region.
